I don't have much experience with Shorin-ryu, but can speak to the differences in emphasis between Shotokan and Kyokushin My experience with Shotokan and Kyokushin is that Kyokushin has a very heavy emphasis on drive and overwhelming the opponent with fairly powerful, very high volume strikes, but I would say there's actually less emphasis in "ending things in one strike" than in Shotokan
